5th graders began these complicated designs by creating their name in block letters. After some fancy paper folding, they did a MAJOR amount of tracing and transferring with that ancient artifact from my childhood, carbon paper. Radial symmetry was created with shape, and then with color, which was added strategically to disguise the lettering. This project is worth the effort, because the results are outstanding!
