1st Grade Pinch Pots

Student's first experience with ceramics is always a lot of fun! We start with the basics, a pinch pot, and the kids are amazed by the transformation of soft grey clay into glass-like, white bisque ware.  We are currently adding silver and gold paint, since these are perfect holiday gifts!

5th Grade Gesture Drawngs

This challenging project began with students posing for each other, and drawing in the gestural style, with loose, oval shapes to describe movement and action.  Students then created a themed drawing to further their gesture drawing skills.  They definitely became more aware of the importance of proportion when drawing people!

4th Grade Value Scale Guitars

The art element of value was the focus of this project.
Students experimented with ebony pencils, and discovered
that many values can be created with just a few pencils.
After brainstorming ideas for a guitar shape, traditional or
inventive, students created a value scale in the neck of
their guitars, and then created at least 3 values in the body
of the guitar.  Naturally, they are hanging up by the
                                          music room!

3rd Graders Love Owls!

Students experimented with brushstrokes to create visual texture in these cute owls.  They also discovered that neutral colors can be beautiful!

2nd Grade Rainbow Fish

Students love the story of the rainbow fish, and the book is wonderful motivation for a project about color theory. The first step was to combine geometric and organic shapes to create a fish. Primary color watercolors were provided, and the kiddos had a great time mixing the secondary colors.  Ocean details and shiny scales completed the picture!

3rd Grade Lion Drawings

This is a wonderful Tesago project, since the lion is our mascot!  Students worked hard to create visual texture in the manes of their lions, and had fun choosing and mixing bright colors to complete their work.  Roar!

Glazed Coil Pots!

There is nothing like opening up the kiln lid to view glazed pieces - it's so exciting!!  4th graders did a great job of following glazing directions, making sure to add 3 coats of glaze, and completely clean any glaze off the bottom.  Hopefully these gems will all make the journey home safely!

5th Grade Engraved Landscapes

Students were required to include foreground, middle ground, and background details in their landscapes.  They embossed and engraved on tooling foil, and then added color with sharpies.  Beautiful!

Fall Color

Here are a few fall shots from the feeder canal near Glens Falls. We visit here every October, and it's a walk that never disappoints!  Fall is my favorite season, for obvious reasons!

4th Coil Pots in Progress!

4th graders have been working hard to plan and create their coil pots, and are half way through the glazing process.  Many plan to eat or drink out of their creations, and a few have even made dog bowls!  Rest assured that we are using lead free, non toxic glaze that is safe for food consumption.  Check back for the finished products in a few weeks!

5th Grade Gyotaku!

Students loved working with rubber fish and printing ink to create these colorful prints.  I don't have the courage to bring in a real fish to print from, but that is how the gyotaku art form began, off the coast of Japan!  We used watercolors to paint the muslin background before the printing process began. LOVE!

3rd Grade Watercolor Paintings

Students added salt to these paintings (OK, I added it as kids painted, being the "salt fairy") to create wonderful textures.  This project combined art and science, as we had a lengthy discussion about the shape and structure of leaves, as well as the way in which salt creates a frosty texture.  Beautiful!
