Shen's 2015 Art Show!

Walkabout Displays

If you weren't able to attend the Walkabout/ Ice Cream Social, here is some wonderful art work, created by all grade levels, that was on display in the art room!

1st Grade Zebra Fever!

 These adorable zebras are based on the artwork of Eric Carle.  Students looked at some of his work, discussed how he painted paper first, and then got to work on 2 striped paintings.  Collage came next, with students cutting and gluing appropriate shapes.  Rounding the corners of the rectangular paper was difficult for some, but was good practice.  Details came last; the kids LOVED using yarn for the mane and tail!  I got many compliments when these were hung up in the hallway; they just make me happy, because they are so cute!  Next year I will connect these zebras with fruit stripe gum!

Your Castle Awaits, 1st Graders!

Many art concepts were explored as students created these fantasy castles; mixing the secondary colors from the primaries, combining geometric shapes to create an image, practicing using watercolors, using imagination, and exploring the world in which castles were common.  Students were excited about the color mixing discoveries they made, and the results are beautiful!

Annie Jr. Sets!

 The Annie Jr. sets are FINALLY DONE!!  I have a few small details to add... this has been the most involved, time consuming set I have ever worked on in my 28 years of teaching, but it has been a lot of fun to paint!  Being a perfectionist, I did most of the work myself, but had some help from my student teacher, and my husband.   Each scene was sketched out by the wonderful and talented Mrs. Coryer - I just brought her vision to life.  It will be tough to paint over these scenes next year, but a new musical awaits!

Wanted: 4th Grade Portrait Artists!

The challenge for this project was for students to draw a face in proportion, which is a very difficult task.  They practiced using guide lines, and focused on shape, size, and placement of facial features.  They then had to develop an idea for a wanted poster, but the person drawn had to be wanted for something positive.  Some very nice sentiments resulted, and really reflected students' interests and feelings.
