Skano 5th Grade Dragon Eyes
This challenging project required students to experiment with hatching, cross hatching, blending and shading with pencil. They were also introduced to ebony pencils, blending sticks, and the always popular kneaded eraser. I am proud of their efforts!!
1st Grade Flowers at Skano
After looking at flower paintings created by Georgia O'Keeffe, students had fun mixing warm colors and painting in the "sun ray" direction to create these poppies. We fringed some paper and also added crepe paper to the center to give our flowers a more 3-D effect. Love those brush strokes!

1st Grade Castles
This watercolor project is all about an "artists' secret" - that many complicated objects can be broken down into simple geometric shapes. We first look at castles in Germany, the Disney castle, and then identify triangles, rectangles, and squares. Students draw their own castles, paint with watercolors (primary colors only - lots of color mixing!) and then add details with oil pastels. 1st graders are fantastic architects!
3rd Grade Color Wheel Creations
This project is a nice blend of technical process and creativity. Students first create a color wheel by mixing the primary colors, and then transform the color wheel into something realistic. I am always amazed by the inventive ideas that students develop into wonderful drawings!
5th Grade Drawing With Light -Tesago
This is my favorite project of all time!! Students learn the basics of how a camera works, and then create a light drawing that I capture in time-lapse form. It is a challenge in many ways - kids are required to plan, practice, work cooperatively, and draw in the dark without really being able to see what they are doing. Bravo to my 5th graders on a job well done!
