2nd Grade Hot Dogs and Cool Cats!
This project was a big hit - who doesn't love cats and dogs? The focus was on warm and cool colors; after students created a painting using both color families, both paintings were used to produce a collage of a cool colored cat and hot colored dog. Fun details were added - collars, hats, glasses, footballs!
Is Mrs. Whalen a Sloth?
The answer is no! I'm sorry that I have gotten so far behind in my blogging. The new year brought with it a family emergency that required all of my attention, and also required me to be out of town quite a bit. Check back often for new and exciting artwork in the near future!
3rd Grade Name Symmetry Drawings
Students used their own names to create these inventive creatures! Names were first drawn on the fold of a "hot dog" folded paper, and then the name was traced a bit larger. The traced line was cut, the paper was unfolded, and then the creativity began to flow as kids turned their unique, symmetrical shapes into something realistic.
2nd Grade Squeegee Prints
This fun printing process begins with a design created with markers. Students use a modified squeegee ( I cut notches into the rubber ) to draw a line design on an inked surface, and then place the marker drawing on top, rubbing VERY LIGHTLY. The results are quite striking, and it's always a surprise as to how each print will turn out!
