1st Grade Pinch Pots

Student's first experience with ceramics is always a lot of fun! We start with the basics, a pinch pot, and the kids are amazed by the transformation of soft grey clay into glass-like, white bisque ware.  We are currently adding silver and gold paint, since these are perfect holiday gifts!

5th Grade Gesture Drawngs

This challenging project began with students posing for each other, and drawing in the gestural style, with loose, oval shapes to describe movement and action.  Students then created a themed drawing to further their gesture drawing skills.  They definitely became more aware of the importance of proportion when drawing people!

4th Grade Value Scale Guitars

The art element of value was the focus of this project.
Students experimented with ebony pencils, and discovered
that many values can be created with just a few pencils.
After brainstorming ideas for a guitar shape, traditional or
inventive, students created a value scale in the neck of
their guitars, and then created at least 3 values in the body
of the guitar.  Naturally, they are hanging up by the
                                          music room!

3rd Graders Love Owls!

Students experimented with brushstrokes to create visual texture in these cute owls.  They also discovered that neutral colors can be beautiful!

2nd Grade Rainbow Fish

Students love the story of the rainbow fish, and the book is wonderful motivation for a project about color theory. The first step was to combine geometric and organic shapes to create a fish. Primary color watercolors were provided, and the kiddos had a great time mixing the secondary colors.  Ocean details and shiny scales completed the picture!
